Pump Selection Education
Pump Types
Popular pump types include piston, diaphragm, gear, centrifugal, squeeze, and roller. These pumps can be driven by ground, PTO, electric, or hydraulic power. Each type of pump—centrifugal, diaphragm, and piston—has its unique benefits and drawbacks. Understanding these can help farmers select the most suitable pump for their specific needs.
Considered by many as the Cadillac of pumps.
Many OEM's use this type of pump. Cannot be controlled with a pwm controller
Used with lower rate in furrow applications.
Pump Sizing
When sizing your pump you will need to know:
- Max Rate (GPA)
- Max Speed
- Total Number of Rows
- Row Spacing (Inches)
Find your GPM = (GPA × MPH × Row Spacing (Inches)) ÷ (5940)
((GPM x Rows = Planter wide GPM) x .110) = Pump Size
